Abigail Wells, a 19-year-old cancer survivor and student at The University of Central Arkansas, underwent a life-changing amputation of her right leg in 2019.
She arrived at New Hope Prosthetics & Orthotics with a dream and a desire to participate in track and other high-impact activities. She had a device that was limiting her in those pursuits due to a poor fit and suboptimal component choice. The design created for her was an advanced track-style running prosthesis. It took months of trial fits and alignment adjustments to perfect.
This device, with its specialized design, allowed her to recognize her dreams of competition and giving back to the amputee population. During the process, Abigail spent a lot of time with the staff at New Hope, proved to be a good patient, and became a friend to everyone. Her outlook on life is very inspirational and positive.
Determined to help others with disabilities and chronic illnesses, she founded the non-profit Natural State Adaptive Sports. With the support of New Hope Prosthetics & Orthotics, Abigail continues her athletic pursuits in track and CrossFit, aiming to bring adaptive sports to Arkansas through Move United. Abigail's future goals include raising awareness and expanding opportunities for people with disabilities in Arkansas.
